How did you get started in the industry?

While living in San Francisco my sons elementary school was going through some renovations and the kindergarten bathroom looked like a hospital bathroom. The teacher asked if I would be interested in “cheering it up a bit” I took on the job “pro-bono” The kids loved it so much that the teacher had a hard time getting them to come out. There was an ABC train wallpapered on the walls and the kids would sit in there and sing the alphabet.. I was hooked….

What do you love about your job?

Watching my client’s reactions when they see the room transformed and completed. I love creating beautiful spaces for people to live in. I change people’s lives, one room at a time.

How do you do your job better than your competition?

Interior Design can be very confusing. I help give my client a sense of ease and comfort by listening to their needs and implementing that into a design concept. I take the confusion and uncertainty out of the design process and make them feel good about what they want and how it will look in the end. I love doing design board concepts to give them a visual about how the room will look when we are done. I also have an unlimited amount of resources to offer my clients which takes the confusion out of “Where do I start?”

Why would someone come to you?

For professional advice and a creative eye on how to go from fine to fabulous. 11 years in the industry has taught me a lot about how to listen and transform a room/house to meet the needs of my clients.

Any significant background?

Prior to interior design I worked in the corporate world selling 401k’s, employee handbooks and payroll for small start up business. When I had my first son, I went from selling profit sharing pension plans to watching a big purple dinasour named Barney singing “I love you. You love me..”  That was tough getting used to. My most recent study was the art of Feng Shui while incorporating it in the design process if the client approves. I also have a certification in Interior Redesign which allows me to use the client’s current belongings while incorporating a new and updated look. Clients love when I can use something that they love while making a room look updated and new.

What’s your philosophy about your industry/job?

Always listen to the client’s needs and wants. Many designers out there have a certain “style” and use that style as a universal plan for all designs. I believe my style is the clients style. Design can be very “trendy” I try to keep my clients on track while selecting pieces that are timeless and that they will love for years to come.  I also believe that interior design and space planning have a direct reflection on an individual’s mental attitude, spirt and energy level. Your home should reflect the best of you, it’s the place you lay your head down at the end of every day. Why not make it amazing?

3 adjectives to describe yourself: Loyal, Honest and fair.

Notable achievements: My husband and three kids. They are my greatest accomplishment and reward in this life. They inspire and drive me every day to be the best I can be.

I also contribute to design charity events and offer design services once a year to give back to the community. I believe that a well-designed living space can create greatness in your life. My most recent contributions are Design for Veteran’s and Design for Dignity.
